ADAPTING

I love to garden; it's in my blood
I have a lovely Japanese garden.
It's somber with a waterfall.

I cried when they had to take
off my leg; my gardening came
to an abrupt halt. I struggle to
thin the plums and peaches
and prune the Concord grades.

My vegetable garden is Spartan.
I have just three tomato plants.
I relish green peas in spring
but now they'll have to wait.

I'm not going to let my missing leg
beat me. So I've devised a
cunning plan; I'm working on the
design. I'll remove the foot
from my prosthetic; and replace
it with a shovel.
