“Portal” (2024), Acrylics on canvas, 12” x 18”; a photorealistic colonnade with fluted stone columns on plinths, framed by a Roman arch. The coffered ceiling features octagonal panels with rosettes and egg-and-dart molding. The colonnade of shadows leads to a portal to the cosmos onto a nebula of stars. Historical architecture is used to frame survival. The stones become a metaphor, and the universe becomes the exit. The painting contrasts classical structure with infinite mystery to explore the threshold between the infinite and the eternal.

Sixth Sense

Wood Duck

About the Author

Carina Imbrogno is a self-taught, disabled, award-winning artist and illustrator who has defeated death many times. Carina’s story is about hardships and miracles through art and faith. She was born with a rare genetic disorder called Marfanoid Habitus; Ehlers Danlos Syndrome was diagnosed in 2015. Carina considers herself a walking miracle. She has 26 screws and two rods holding her spine. Carina also has learning disabilities. She began her art journey in 2015 at the age of 40 after experiencing a profound spiritual awakening. At that time, she began discovering her true artistic ability. Carina began drawing very detailed, realistic drawings from photographs, creating a photorealistic style. She enjoys depicting everything that she finds beautiful, including human adults and children, pets, wildlife, landscapes, nature, still lives and botanicals, as well as working with spiritual themes. Carina gets a lot of inspiration from the works of the old masters. She is hoping her miraculous story and art will continue to shed light in this dark world. Carina enjoys working in many different mediums including pastels, graphite, charcoal, gouache, watercolors, acrylics, and oils. Her medium of choice has been pastels since 2019. Carina has created over 150 works of art since she started her art journey in 2015. She began exhibiting her art work in local galleries and online in 2017. Her work has been accepted in over 450 local and online exhibits and has received over 300 awards. Carina has made it her mission to share her story with the world to inspire others and give them a renewed sense of hope.
