Katherine Schneider

(with homage to Emily Dickinson)

Listen to the audio version.

"Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul."
I fluff my black feathers and call out in alarm.
I am on the margin–poor, disabled, elderly-I have no victory song.

"Hope is the thing…that never stops at all."
I stretch my strong wings and call out to my kind–smart, savvy survivors.

"Hope is the thing that sweetest in the gale is heard".
I call to you to gather together. We can care for our flock.

"Hope that kept so many warm" will not disappoint.
We can roost together and keep each other warm.

Hope still perches in my soul. I listen for your answering caws.
Our cause for hope is each other.

Stand together!
Resist together!
Protect the flock where all are welcome!
